Changes are afoot in the online CRB check process, with updates planned for early which will affect five million people over the next five years. The changes are due to be implemented consequently of a recent government review into the way criminal record checks are being made. The review found that the existing process, although effective in the initial instance, doesn't allow it to be easy for employers to check on the criminal status of an employee as time passes after the original check has been carried out. Consequently of the review, the Criminal Records Bureau is in the process of making a fresh system, with the prototype now ready for testing.

The newest system will be entirely optional, and it could be the decision of the employee as opposed to the employer if they opt in. The underlying principle of any CRB check is always to respect the privacy of the in-patient in question. This principle isn't set to change. The decision will undoubtedly be created by the in-patient if they need to join the online CRB check update service at the same time frame because they apply for the original CRB check, and as is the current procedure, at this time payment will have to be made. Once payment has cleared then if the individual opted into the internet updates, they'll receive an ID number that will be entirely unique to them. They're then absolve to log within their online account at any time.
